When most people think of fuel-efficient cars, they think of coupes, hatchbacks, sedans, and wagons. These are indeed the cars with the best combined MPG averages. Fortunately, there are plenty of options within these categories that are exceptionally fuel-efficient. Here are some of 2023’s cars with the top MPG ratings.
Mitsubishi Mirage
You should learn more about the Mirage if you are interested in purchasing the cheapest car out there. Plus, it’s rated at 39 MPG and it’s not a hybrid. However, it does come with performance limitations. With 76 horsepower, it offers well below the average horsepower of all of 2023’s cars.
Toyota Crown
Before browsing used cars and checking them on the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, check out the brand new Crown, which is halfway between a sedan and a crossover. While this hybrid comes with all-wheel drive, it is the least efficient of the hybrids, averaging 41 MPG and sporting around 236 horsepower. Plus, the higher the trim level you want, the lower your MPG goes.
Lexus ES 300h
The Lexus hybrid is a fuel-efficient luxury vehicle. Even though this model is one of the largest hybrids on the market, it offers 44 MPG. It comes in front-wheel drive and offers 215 horsepower.
Honda Accord Hybrid
You can opt for used models in Honda’s one of two hybrid options, the Accord sedan, just remember to research the vehicle’s history first. The Accord hybrid gives you 48 MPG. It also comes with great features, including dual climate control, Bluetooth, a 12-inch screen, and driver-assist systems.
Toyota Corolla Hybrid
This compact sedan offers 50 MPG in the FWD option. The AWD models are rated at 48 MPG. Either way, you can expect 138 horsepower in this car. It is also affordable, with models starting at $24,000.
Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
The entry-level Hyundai Sonata hybrid offers 52 MPG. It comes with 192 horsepower, 16-inch wheels, and is one of the lightest models available. Plus, it comes at a fair price, starting at $29,000.
Toyota Camry Hybrid
The base-level Toyota Camry hybrid also gets 52 MPG. When you move up to higher trim levels, you can expect 46 MPG. To get that better gas mileage, you’ll have to put up with cloth seats, smaller wheels, and less comfort options. However, you still get the 208 horsepower.
Kia Niro Hybrid
This station wagon is the most fuel-efficient model offered by Kia, with 53 MPG. It sports a high-tech automatic transmission to give it an extra boost in fuel economy compared to other wagons. It is also a fair price, starting at $28,000.
Hyundai Elantra Hybrid
The lower models in the Hyundai Elantra hybrids can hit 54 MPG, although the higher trim levels only offer 50 MPG. Either way, you’re getting the six-speed transmission and four-cylinder motor. That will give you 139 horsepower.
